Group Project – Progress Report #2
Its been a busy few weeks – the modelling for the ship has progressed a lot.
The group decided we needed to create our own design for the ship, so our concept artist Raphael set to work designing and drawing some model sheets. We were all extremely happy with the design he came up with, and for me it was very inspiring to create the model from.
As I had already blocked out the previous ship, the process of how to tackle the new design was clear in my mind and didn’t take long. I used a similar technique as before, blocking out the “ribs” of the ship and using them as a guide to model the hull. I then began the slow process of going over the blocking and cleaning things up and adding in detail. It was quite a long-winded process but I really enjoyed this kind of modelling. I’ve tried to include a good amount of detail, without going overboard (‘scuse the pun), which would have create problems later down the line when it comes to render time!
I’m pretty happy with the result. There are certain things I might change at a later point, such as removing some unnecessary extra polys, but for now it’s being passed down the line to rigging and texturing, whilst I have a break from the group project to crack on with my other assignments!
